Opposition leader: No incidents reported during overnight rally in Yerevan
No incidents were recorded during the overnight opposition rally outside the parliament building in Armenia’s capital, Chairman of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF, Dashnaktsutyun) Supreme Council of Armenia Ishkhan Saghatelyan, who coordinates the activities of the opposition Homeland Salvation Movement, said on Wednesday.
Thousands of opposition supporters blocked the National Assembly building on Tuesday to press a demand for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his cabinet to step down.
In a live video on Facebook, the opposition leader said protesters kept Marshal Baghramyan Avenue and Demirchyan Street in downtown Yerevan blocked, adding the night passed peacefully.
He said the entrances to the National Assembly will remain blocked until the dismissal of Pashinyan by the parliamentary majority.
According to Saghatelyan, demonstrators started cleaning the streets early in the morning, preparing for the next rally at 4pm today.
"We will not step back; we will fight till the end to oust this government of evil through consistent steps. Our country is passing through a decisive and crucial period. Together, we will overcome [the difficulties] and get out of this situation,” he said.
