Aram Sargsyan, arrested over fake Facebook account, set free, lawyer says
Civic activist Aram Sargsyan, who was arrested over suspected connection with a fake Facebook account opened in the name of “Gagik Soghomonyan”, was set free on Monday, his lawyer Benik Gasparyan, said.
In a post on Facebook, the lawyer said judge Lusine Abgaryan of the Criminal Court of Appeals overturned the ruling of a lower court to arrest his client, declaring the measure of restraint imposed on him as illegal.
The National Security Service had earlier detained also Ara Saghatelyan, a former chief of staff of the National Assembly, Qaryak Media co-founder Karen Bekaryan and Mher Avagyan, a manager for International Center on Development of Parliamentarism, as part of a probe into the case.
Aram Sargsyan and Ara Saghatelyan had been remanded in custody in line with court rulings. The appellate court ruled to release Saghatelyan on March 5.
