Armenia's parliament votes to lift martial law
Armenia’s National Assembly voted 118 to 1 on Wednesday to lift the martial law.
The draft decision had been submitted by the two opposition factions – Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia. Only one MP abstained from voting.
The martial law was declared in Armenia on 27 September 2020, when Azerbaijan unleashed a war against Artsakh.
Separately, the parliament passed in the second reading a government-drafted bill calling for changes to the law on trade and services. The bill was adopted in a vote of 96 for, 1 against and 17 abstentions.
Lawmakers also voted 117 to 1 with one abstention to extend the term of the powers of a parliamentary inquiry commission tasked with assessing the effectiveness of the government’s efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19, to ease or eliminate its impact, as well as to study the effectiveness and legality of restrictions of human rights and fundamental freedoms during the state of emergency.
The parliament passed in the second reading the draft laws on making amendments and supplements to the laws “On Public Bargaining” and “On Petitions”.
