Armenian FM, Iraqi defense minister discuss regional security
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian on Thursday held a meeting with Defense Minister of Iraq Juma Anad Saadoun Khattab.
Welcoming the Iraqi delegation, Aivazian commended the high level of Armenian-Iraqi relations, based on centuries-old friendship, the Foreign Ministry reported.
The officials emphasized the importance of deepening the military and security dialogue between Armenia and Iraq, mutually expressing confidence that the close cooperation within these spheres will have a positive effect in ensuring regional stability and peace.
The ministers also discussed a wide range of issues concerning regional security. Aivazian drew his interlocutor's attention to Turkey's direct involvement in the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, expressing concern over the latter's deployment of foreign terrorist fighters and mercenaries in the conflict zone. In this context, sides highlighted the need for close cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism in all possible dimensions.
