Daily reported coronavirus cases in US back up over 80,000
Newly reported coronavirus cases in the U.S. rose to their second-highest level in nearly six weeks, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The country recorded 80,716 cases on Friday, according to Johns Hopkins University data, which was published Saturday morning and might be updated later. That compares with 67,443 cases for Thursday. It is also only the second time daily cases have exceeded 80,000 since Feb. 13. Wednesday recorded 86,947 cases, a tally that included backlogs of data from at least two states.
There were 1,265 Covid-19 deaths reported for Friday, a fall from Thursday’s 1,558 though the figure was slightly up from a week earlier.
The U.S. has recorded more than 30 million coronavirus cases and a death toll of just over 548,000. Globally, there have been more than 126 million reported cases, and nearly 2.8 million deaths.
