Armenia's parliament passes amendments to Electoral Code in second reading
Armenia’s National Assembly passed in the second reading on Thursday government-backed amendments to the country’s electoral system ahead of the snap parliamentary elections slated for June 20.
A total of 82 MPs voted for the bill on making amendments to the Electoral Code, with no votes against and abstentions.
The legislative changes propose switching to the proportional system, removing the current mixed system that allows MPs to be elected via a combination between the proportional and the so-called rating-based system.
The amendments mean that during the upcoming early elections Armenians will vote only for parties and blocs, and not individual candidates.
