Turkey treats Azerbaijani soldiers wounded in Nagorno-Karabakh
A Turkish hospital in Istanbul provided five veterans of the Azeri army with prostheses as part of an aid project, Ahval News reported on Sunday, citing state-run Anadolu new agency.
Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), a conservative charity, organised the transfer of soldiers to Istanbul, it said. The prostheses themselves were manufactured in Baku, and transported to Istanbul for fitting.
The soldiers, who were injured during the most recent flare up of a decades-long conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, will receive rehabilitation and physical therapy in Istanbul before returning home.
Turkey was instrumental in Azerbaijan making significant military advances and taking over territory from Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh, or what Armenians call the Republic of Artsakh, offering expert military personnel and technology, including combat drones.
Ankara was accused of transferring Syrian mercenaries and using the Turkish army’s own fighter jets in the conflict, a claim that authorities have strongly denied.
