Armenian expert: Azerbaijan's strategic significance for US to change after troop withdrawal from Afghanistan
Armenian analyst and expert on U.S. foreign policy Suren Sargsyan on Thursday said the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from Afghanistan will also impact Armenia.
“What does the pullout of U.S. troops from Afghanistan have to do with us?
“President Biden has decided to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan this year, ending America's longest war.
“Let me tell you right away: Azerbaijan was strategically significant for the United States because the supplies of the Northern Distribution Network passed through Azerbaijan. In other words, Azerbaijan was a key hub for the U.S. to deliver all kinds of cargo to the American troops deployed in Afghanistan through the territory of Azerbaijan,” the expert wrote on Facebook.
“Due to these transfers, Baku gained political, diplomatic and economic dividends, and in many cases Washington turned a blind eye to Baku's various actions.
"From now on, Azerbaijan's strategic significance for the U.S. will change,” Sargsyan said.
