Powers of Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council head suspended
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Armenia has suspended the powers of Ruben Vardazaryan as its chairman and as a judge of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
In an official statement, the SJC said the decision was made at its closed session on Thursday given that the Prosecutor General’s Office has launched a criminal case against Vardazaryan and under the requirements of Article 86 (Part 7) and Article 165 (Parts 1 and 1.1) of the Judicial Code.
According to the Judicial Code, Gagik Jhangiryan, a senior member of the Supreme Judicial Council, is set to assume the duties of its chairman until the criminal proceedings are completed.
