11 patients evacuated after massive fire breaks out at Yerevan hospital
Eleven patients were evacuated from Heratsi Hospital Complex N1 in Yerevan after a massive fire broke out early on Friday morning.
First responders were called to the hospital at 6:24am, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
Six fire crews were dispatched to the scene.
The fire, which had erupted at a ward on the second floor of the hospital, was contained at 6:34am and put out at 06:43am.
A patient and a doctor sustained burns in the wake of the fire.
Also, two mattresses and two cupboards of the ward were partially burnt.
The 11 patients had been evacuated before the rescuers’ arrival.
In a Facebook post, Yerevan State Medical University Chief of Staff Shushan Danielyan said the fire was supposedly caused by a cigarette lit by one of the patients at the ward.
