Armenian Foreign Ministry strongly condemns Azerbaijani president’s threats to use force
Armenia strongly condemns the Azerbaijani president’s zeal to use force and will take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan said in a statement on Tuesday.
Her comments came after Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev threatened to resolve the issue of establishing the “Zangezur corridor” by force “whether Armenia wants it or not”.
“The creation of the Zangezur corridor fully meets our national, historical and future interests. We will be implementing the Zangezur corridor, whether Armenia wants it or not. If Armenia wants to, it will be easier to resolve this issue, otherwise we will resolve it by force,” Aliyev said during a televised interview.
“We strongly condemn the Azerbaijani president’s aspirations against the territorial integrity of Armenia and his threats to use force. Such statements seriously undermine the regional peace and stability, revealing the false nature of Azerbaijan’s recent statements on peace and reconciliation,” Naghdalyan said.
She called attention to the fact that such threats are made ahead of the 106th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“We are in constant contact with our strategic ally, as well as with all of our partners who are interested in peace in the South Caucasus. Armenia will take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
