Opposition MP: 16 Syunik residents detained at this point
A total of 16 residents of Armenia’s Syunik Province are detained at this point, MP Arman Abovyan from the opposition Prosperous Armenia Party, told reporters outside the Investigative Committee on Thursday, adding they have visited all of them.
Earlier it was revealed that Meghri Mayor Mkhitar Zakaryan was also among the detainees.
The lawmaker said one of the detained residents has accused law enforcement officers of violence, presenting a recording as proof of his claims.
Abovyan said that they were mainly detained between 7am and 8am and almost all of them are suspected of hooliganism under Article 258 (Part 3) of the Criminal Code.
Prosperous Armenia MP Shake Isayan said, in turn, that there is an arrest warrant for all the 16 people.
She said that one of the detainees is suspected of being infected with coronavirus but has not taken a test.
"An ambulance was called once as the person’s health condition worsened,” Isayan said.
The MPs noted that the deputy mayors of Meghri and Goris are among those detained.
