‘Pathetic’ attempts to silence Syunik people testify to powerlessness of authorities, ARF’s Ishkhan Saghatelyan says
A member of the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF, Dashnaktsutyun) party's Supreme Council of Armenia, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, who coordinates the activities of the Homeland Salvation Movement, denounced the detention of a group of residents of Syunik Province bordering with Azerbaijan.
The detentions came after angry protests in the region during Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit on Wednesday.
"The pathetic attempts to silence the people of Syunik testify to the powerlessness and inability of the authorities,” Saghatelyan wrote on Facebook.
He stated the current authorities prove through all their steps that their “existence contradicts the vital interests of the Republic of Armenia”, underlining all those concerned about the future of Armenia should stand with Syunik residents now.
The opposition leader urged all to join a rally outside the statue of Aram Manukyan in Yerevan at 6:30pm today.
