‘There can be no interim PM in the event of resignation’: Pashinyan reminded of his 2018 statement
After Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation on Sunday for the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, Facebook users shared an excerpt from Pashinyan's speech at a 2018 rally following the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan.
“Analyzing the legislation of Armenia, lawyers have concluded that in the event of the resignation of the prime minister, there can be no interim prime minister,” said then opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan.
In a statement announcing his resignation, Pashinyan said, in particular: “Today, I am resigning from the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia in order to implement the decision to hold early parliamentary elections on June 20. During this period, I will continue to exercise the duties of the Prime Minister of Armenia to the full extent as specified by the applicable law and the Constitution.”
Incidentally, many lawyers have already stated that Nikol Pashinyan is not entitled to serve as an acting prime minister.
