Turkish parliament condemns Biden's Armenian Genocide statement
Turkey’s parliament on Tuesday condemned US President Joe Biden's statement on the Armenian Genocide, Turkish media reported.
Biden on Saturday became the first US president to formally recognize the massacre of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire over a century ago as a genocide.
"As the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, we regretfully and strongly condemn US President Joe Biden's remarks with a statement dated on April 24, 2021 to adopt the Armenian lobbies’ claims on the events of 1915," said a joint declaration by Turkish political parties.
"We strongly reject these baseless slanders, which have no meaning other than the distortion of history with political motives. This statement is null and void for us," it added.
Thus, Turkey sticks to its policy of denial, which was naturally expected given Turkey's support for Azerbaijan's aggressive policy.
