Armenian MP: Many issues stemming from logic of justice have not been resolved in three years
The Armenian authorities had three years to implement the reforms promised to the people in 2018, but so far many issues stemming from the logic of justice have not been resolved, MP Tigran Urikhanyan said at a special parliament sitting on Wednesday.
He noted that the ruling My Step bloc has authored a bill concerning one of those issues, the electoral processes, but has failed to introduce it to parliament.
“Elections are fair and transparent when people who have no money but have a good idea or program can participate in it and be confident that no one in the voting booths will take a photo of the ballot to prove that they have elected this or that force in exchange for money or under duress,” the lawmaker said.
Urikhanyan called attention to fraud in the post-election vote-counting process, stating such a scenario is not ruled out in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections.
“Each participant in the elections, first of all, will focus all efforts, attention and resources on overseeing the voting process and vote count, rather than organizing a high-quality campaign,” the MP said.
Raising the issue of the balance of financial influence in the electoral processes and the equal and fair distribution of airtime, the MP called on the parliamentary majority to submit a new draft Electoral Code, highlighting it is one of the four campaign promises of the current authorities, which they have failed to fulfill.
