Armenia’s caretaker health minister says risk of COVID vaccine side effects almost zero
Vaccinations are 100% effective in preventing severe or critical coronavirus disease, Armenia’s caretaker Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan told a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
Underlining that everyone above 18 years of age is eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19, the minister said that regardless of the place of enrollment, a citizen can register at any polyclinic to receive vaccine shots.
She said that starting from next week mobile COVID-19 vaccination teams will be deployed in busy parts of Yerevan.
According to the official, the risk of mild or severe side effects from vaccines is almost zero compared to infection with coronavirus causing serious health issues and death.
Avanesyan cited the experience of Israel and the United Kingdom, where more than 50 percent of the population has already been vaccinated, resulting in a sharp decline in coronavirus cases.
Anahit Avanesyan reminded that she and acting Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan got their first vaccine shots on Wednesday and assured that they are feeling well.
Armenia has confirmed 656 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 215,528 on Thursday. The COVID-19 death toll has increased by 16 to 4,087. The number of active cases is 13,257.
