Former Armenian NSS chief: Much remains to be done by true devotees of homeland
The creation of the Union of the National Security Service (NSS) Reserve Officers was a necessity, a board member of the newly-established NGO, former NSS Director Artur Vanetsyan told a news conference on Friday.
“Our country has found itself in a disastrous situation, much remains to be done by the true devotees of the homeland, people who have proved their devotion to the country and the Armenian people throughout their lives and have exclusively taken efforts to advance the state and national interests,” he said.
Vanetsyan stated everyone must use their capabilities, knowledge and potential to restore the country’s security system.
He highlighted that the Union of the NSS Reserve Officers is a non-governmental organization as it initially announced. “I confirm this statement, but you all know very well that I am engaged in active politics and it would be impossible not to associate my membership to this NGO with politics.
“But I assure you that this organization will not support any political force and will not promote anyone's ideas, including mine. We will act exclusively in line with the interests of our country,” Vanetsyan said.
He noted that many knowledgeable officers and generals have today joined the organization. Vanetsyan is convinced many more people will join them soon, adding they all must act in accordance with the formula, "We are not the state, but the state is us."
“If someone tries to take steps against our state and people, believe me, they will receive an extremely harsh response from us,” Vanetsyan noted.
