Zinedine Zidane 'to quit Real Madrid at end of season'
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is set to leave the club at the end of the season, regardless of whether his side successfully retain their La Liga title, Daily Mirror reports.
Los Blancos currently trail league leaders Atletico Madrid by five points but they could reduce that gap with their trip to Granada on Thursday night in their game in hand.
Madrid will then close their campaign with a trip to Athletic Bilbao and home game against Villarreal - which will be staged three days before their opponents participating in the Europa League final - as they still retain hope of landing the league title.
That would make Zidane the first Madrid boss to win successive league titles since Leo Beenhacker - who won three leagues in a row between 1987 and 1989 - but it is not thought to be sufficient for the Frenchman to change his mind on his future.
A report in the Mail has outlined the former midfield star is fed up in his role at the club and is set to walk away at the end of the campaign, just as he did in 2018 after winning his third consecutive Champions League title.
Last week’s Champions League semi-final exit at the hands of Chelsea has brought Zidane’s future into the spotlight once more and it is thought that he does not feel adequately backed by his club.
Zidane is said to be frustrated with his position and the club’s inability to land Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, whom has long been courted by the manager.
It is said that club president Florentino Perez would be open to promoting club legend Raul Gonzalez - who has been managing the club’s reserve Castilla side - to replace Zidane.
