Armenia seeks Iran’s support to end Azeri encroachment on its territory – ambassador
Armenia’s Ambassador to Iran Artashes Toumanian on Sunday held a meeting with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami, the Armenian Embassy in Iran reported on Monday.
The Armenian diplomat briefed the Iranian official on the situation created by the Azerbaijani military incursion into Armenian territory, noting that Armenia expects friendly Iran's support to put an end to Azerbaijan's provocative actions against the territorial integrity of Armenia, which are also aimed at destabilizing the region.
Reaffirming the need to uphold the principle of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, the parties discussed the work on the implementation of the Persian Gulf-Black Sea International Transport and Transit Corridor program.
Mohammad Eslami expressed the readiness of the Iranian leadership to launch this important transport corridor, which, according to the minister, is aimed not only at economic development, but also at ensuring regional security.
Artashes Toumanian stressed the need to strengthen the north-south transport axis, noting that it is in the interests of all countries involved in the program and is the most effective countermeasure to curb aspirations towards destabilizing the region.
