Robert Kocharyan set to leave Sistema, his office head says
Some media reports recently suggested that Armenia’s former President Robert Kocharyan is set to step down as a member of the Board of Directors of a major Russian corporation, AFK Sistema, after holding the post since 2009.
Speaking to Yerevan.Today on Tuesday, Viktor Soghomonyan, the head of the second president’s office, confirmed the news.
"It’s true, Robert Kocharyan has decided to leave AFK Sistema. A few days ago, he refused to continue his activities at the Board of Directors. Appreciating the 12-year history of effective work, President Kocharyan, however, made a principled decision to refuse the opportunity to continue it. He will complete his duties after the shareholders' meeting to be held in late June,” he said.
Soghomonyan noted that Kocharyan will focus his efforts on overcoming the challenges facing Armenia and resolving the issues on the political agenda.
