Foreign Ministry spox: Armenia rejects fake agenda of so-called ‘disputed territories’
Imposing conditions with the threat or use of force is a gross violation of international law, and Armenia will not give in to such pressures, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan said on Friday, referring to the Azerbaijani incursion into the sovereign territory of Armenia.
“Armenia also rejects the fake agenda of so-called "disputed territories", which could set a dangerous precedent for justifying the use of force in other regions as well,” she said.
“Failing to implement its obligations under the November 9 trilateral statement, particularly in regard with the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian captives, as well as other humanitarian issues, Azerbaijan once again demonstrated its behavior of deliberately undermining its international commitments.
“The processes of border delimitation and demarcation between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan should be part of the comprehensive peaceful settlement of the conflict, within the framework of which issues of de-occupation of the territories of the Republic of Artsakh and determination of the final legal status of Artsakh under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship should be addressed first.
“In this situation, the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia to their positions of May 11 may create necessary conditions for considering the emerging issues through political-diplomatic measures,” Naghdalyan said.
Speaking about the international reaction to the situation, she said: “Our international partners who stand for international law and are genuinely interested in stability and security in the South Caucasus region, have expressed their unequivocal position implying that Azerbaijan must immediately and unconditionally withdraw its armed forces from the sovereign territory of Armenia.”
