Armenian president holds phone call with General Staff chief
Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian on Thursday held a telephone conversation with Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Artak Davtyan, the presidential office reported.
The army chief presented details from today’s incident in which six Armenian servicemen were captured by the Azerbaijani troops in the border area of Gegharkunik Province and the current border situation.
The president stressed the importance of using all the opportunities of the competent bodies, first of all, the Armenian Armed Forces, and diplomacy for the return of the captured servicemen.
According to him, maximum efforts should be made to ensure the security and protection of rights of the servicemen and the citizens of Armenia.
Sarkissian stressed the provocative actions of Azerbaijan in Armenia’s territory must receive a strong response from the international community, adding that he will continue raising the issue during talks with his international partners.
