Armen Gevorgyan: After June 20 elections, demand from Kocharyan a strong, peaceful, secure Armenia
The head of the election campaign headquarters of the Armenia alliance led by second President Robert Kocharyan, former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan urged people to demand from Kocharyan a “strong, peaceful and secure Armenia” after the June 20 snap parliamentary elections in Armenia.
In a post on his Telegram channel, Gevorgyan reflected on Kocharyan’s participation in the early elections.
“One of the most discussed issues during my meetings in regions is whether Kocharyan has changed.
“I think recent years have made him more open and communicative. He actively familiarized himself with modern management techniques and expanded the circle of his professional and personal contacts,” he wrote, adding the ex-president is simply at some extent “offended” by the public failure to appreciate his contribution to the development of the country.
Gevorgyan expressed confidence it will only help him to properly organize his relations with the public in the future.
“Yes, he has changed! And it is evidenced by his active involvement in the political campaign. He could also, like many others, remain on the sidelines, but he did not.
Many of those who are not going to vote for Nikol Pashinyan ask themselves the question, why Kocharyan? I understand the implications of such a question, as many of them want to see new figures. In other circumstances and in a different situation, it should have been so. Moreover, I am sure that in other circumstances Kocharian himself would like to do the same.
But now the country is on the brink of disaster. Many people understand that only he can stop this process. This is an objective assessment regardless of your personal attitude towards him.
Objectively, many strongly criticize Kocharyan, realizing, nevertheless, that he is the only real alternative in this situation.
It is objective but at the same time unfair that the controversial pages of our 27-year history "before Nikol" are attributed only to Kocharyan.
Objectively, he cannot possibly fit the ideas and wishes of all sober people. There are simply no such ideal people, especially politicians.
However, as a matter of fact, even after many years of evil and defamatory propaganda, thousands of people who are going to live in Armenia pin their real hopes on him.
During my meetings, I state that one should not love or glorify Kocharyan, but should respect him and trust him as a leader, as an experienced politician who knows how to lead the country out of this cycle of shocking developments. And after June 20, demand from him a strong, peaceful, secure, just and developing Armenia! Demand from him advanced teams, a professional system of government, competent diplomacy, a modern political system, social harmony, economic stability and much more,” Gevorgyan said.
