Russia has no say on Ukraine joining NATO - Stoltenberg
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg remarked on Monday that Russia has no power to decide whether Ukrainer will join that group or not.
"The message is that it is for Ukraine and the 30 allies to decide when Ukraine can become a NATO member," Stoltenberg stated at the ongoing NATO summit. "Russia, of course, cannot say, they cannot veto what neighbors can do."
Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated his country would increase its security efforts in case Ukraine joined NATO. Germany later responded that Kiev's accession to the group is currently not on its agenda.
