Eduard Sharmazanov: Sunday’s snap elections are a ‘new Battle of Avarayr’
For the first time in the modern history of Armenia, the Armenian people have to make a choice between independence, sovereignty and national values, on the one hand, and the “national disgrace and prospect of turning into a Turkish vilayet”, on the other hand, according to Deputy Chairman of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov, a member of the I’m Honored bloc.
“This is a very clear choice,” he told a news conference on Thursday, the penultimate day of the campaign for Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections.
Sharmazanov indicated that perhaps many Armenian citizens do not realize that it is a “fateful choice”.
“The June 20 elections will be fateful for each of us. On this day, we must make it clear that we will not tolerate a capitulation and the puppet of Erdogan and Aliyev in our country. It's a shame already. Seven months after the end of the war, this capitulant and land giver [referring to Nikol Pashinyan] participates in the election campaign and even holds rallies,” Sharmazanov said.
The I’m Honored bloc member stressed that for the first time in 30 years, an election campaign is being held under the conditions of the occupation of Shushi, Hadrut, 75% of the homeland, Shurnukh, Black Lake, and the territories of Gegharkunik Province.
“I want everyone to understand that this is not merely a political process, this is a new Battle of Avarayr for us. I am a historian and I know well what I am talking about,” he said. “I have always been against the dividing lines, but, as Nzhdeh said, the inner Turk is more dangerous than the Turk. While Aliyev and Erdogan are signing a new agreement on pan-Turkism in Shushi, the capitulant continues his election campaign.”
Sharmazanov recalled that Armenia was deprived of its independence and sovereignty when a “Trojan horse inside the country opened the gates of the state from within.” He said today the “keys” to the country have been handed over to the enemy.
“This capitulation, defeat and national humiliation has a name – Nikol Pashinyan. The name of the national humiliation is Nikol Pashinyan,” he said.
