Lawyer: Appeal against Armen Charchyan’s illegal arrest assigned to judge Manvel Shahverdyan
The arrest of doctor Armen Charchyan, a candidate for MP from the Armenia bloc, has been appealed, with the case assigned to judge Manvel Shahverdyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, his lawyer Aram Vardevanyan said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
"I would like to inform you that our appeal against the apparently illegal arrest of Professor Charchyan has been assigned to judge Manvel Shahverdyan (Avan residence). Further information will be provided on the time of the hearing,” the lawyer wrote.
“Incidentally, we decided to observe a day of silence, but the Prosecutor's Office, which did not record any illegality of the outgoing government, issued a statement,» Vardevanyan said.
He insisted that the sole basis for Charchyan’s arrest was a report by a pro-government Telegram channel.
Charchyan, who heads Izmirlian Medical Center, was arrested on Friday for allegedly forcing his employees to take part in Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections and to vote for the Armenia alliance.
