CIS observers: Sunday’s elections held in accordance with Armenian legislation
Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections in Armenia were fully in line with the country’s electoral legislation and the Constitution. The observers did not record any violations that would affect the will of the people and the election outcomes, Ilhom Nematov, the head of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) observer mission, said on Monday, hailing the “high-level” vote.
According to the early results, Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract Party won 53.92% of the vote. Robert Kocharyan’s Armenia bloc came second with 21.04%.
Kanibek Imanaliyev, the coordinator of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly mission, also said that the elections were held in accordance with all legal requirements.
"Naturally, there are no flawless elections. There were some shortcomings, but they were not significant and did not affect the results," Imanaliyev said, noting that in the morning they visited a polling station where no proxy of any of the 25 parties and blocs was present.
He said under the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic the 49.4% voter turnout reflects the mood of the voters.
"In other words, elections in the classical sense of the word were held," Imanaliyev added.
The CIS observers noted that the elections in Armenia were held in a competitive environment.
