Over 65,719 vaccinations recorded in Armenia, health official says
More than 65,719 vaccinations have been recorded in Armenia thus far, comprising nearly 2% of the population, Gayane Sahakyan, Deputy Director General of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told a news conference on Tuesday.
53,000 of them have received their first vaccine shots for now. Deploring the low immunization rates, Sahakyan said it will take a long time to achieve herd immunity and remove all restrictions.
"1,500 doses of vaccine are administered daily, the vaccination rates dropped over the past week," she said, attributing it to the decrease in the daily coronavirus cases.
She assessed the overall virus situation in Armenia as stable, adding the situation remains tense globally amid the spread of the new Covid-19 strains.
“There was a time when the virus reproduction rate in the country stood at 0.4, with the situation being quite a stable, but over the past 14 days this figure grew to 1.1%," Sahakyan said, adding the figure shows there will be an increase in daily coronavirus cases soon.
The Ministry of Health official predicted that 600 new coronavirus cases will be confirmed in Armenia in the coming week, with 5 critical cases and 180 cases requiring hospitalization.
