Armenia bloc member: Model of constitutional justice for June 20 elections will be unprecedented
The Armenia bloc has filed an appeal to the Constitutional Court to overturn the June 27 decision of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on the official results of the June 20 snap parliamentary elections, Aram Vardevanyan, a senior member of the bloc, said on Friday.
Speaking at a news conference, he said the bloc has challenged the constitutionality, legality and factual circumstances of the CEC decision.
Vardevanyan said the application is quite extensive and includes evidence, including electronic media. The Constitutional Court will make the application of the bloc a subject of discussion both in terms of quantitative violations, which refer to the offences that were committed during the voting day and about which data were presented from different polling stations, and in terms of quality.
"It covers the group of issues concerning the irregularities registered since April 25. The application outlines 12 groups of issues, documents with detailed substantiations are attached,” Vardevanyan said, adding the election appeal will be considered by the Constitutional Court under the law “On the Constitutional Court” for the first time, since the law was adopted in 2018.
According to the Armenia bloc member, the staff of the Constitutional Court readily and properly responds to the questions regarding the provisions by the new law.
He claims the model of constitutional justice for the snap elections will be unprecedented.
"According to the available information, several political forces are challenging the election results in the Constitutional Court. I do not remember such an extensive subject of constitutional justice," Vardevanyan said.
