Artur Vanetsyan: Our struggle for Armenian statehood is continuous
The leader of the opposition I’m Honored bloc and Homeland Party, Artur Vanetsyan, issued a congratulatory message on Constitution Day marked in Armenia on July 5.
In his message, posted on the official Facebook page of the alliance, he claimed the Constitution of Armenia is “targeted and put at risk” by the current authorities.
“Today, unfortunately, we live in a time where the "iron hammer" and the "steel mandate" are above the Constitution, and repeated attempts are being made to trample on and endanger the basic law of the Republic of Armenia in an effort to form a government subject to the whims of one person, rather than the law,” Vanetsyan said.
He stated Armenia can develop only in case of “unconditional” adherence to the applicable laws and Constitution, as well as public solidarity and ideas that can bring the people together.
“It is due to the determination and will of every Armenian citizen that the stability of the country and the constitutional bases will be preserved and all the adventurous attempts of a single-person rule will be rejected.
“The Constitution is one of the most important pillars of the modern Armenian statehood, which naturally implies that the consistent struggle against its violations is a struggle for the statehood.
“In the midst of that struggle we cannot be discouraged, fall into despair or give up under any circumstances or pressure, amid any kind of persecution, temptation or misguidance. Therefore, the constitutional struggle will be calm, confident, dignified, and, eventually, victorious,” the opposition leader said.
Vanetsyan underlined even a constitution that needs to be amended is far better than “unconstitutional chaos” and a dictatorship that it can lead to.
“Therefore, congratulating the people on Constitution Day, I once again assure that our struggle for the statehood of Armenia is continuous and our vision of Armenia embarking on the path of revival is unshakable,” the message said.
