Armenian police, NSS chiefs promoted to major-general rank
President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia has signed decrees to promote Police Chief, Colonel Vahe Ghazaryan and National Security Service (NSS) Director, Colonel Armen Abazyan to the rank of major-general.
The decrees are published on the official website of the president.
Also, the head of the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Ashot Zakaryan, the head of the State Security Service of the National Security Service, Colonel Sargis Hovhannisyan have been awarded the major-general rank.
The promotions come amid an increase in the crime rates in the country, as well as the unprecedented increase in the national security threats.
A large number of Azerbaijani troops remain in Armenia’s territory, particularly in Gegharkunik and Syunik Provinces, since May 12, capturing six Armenian servicemen and killing one in this period.
