Professor Charchyan in a ‘good mood’ despite ‘disgusting permissiveness of law’, lawyer says
Famous Armenian doctor, Director of Yerevan’s Izmirlian Medical Center Armen Charchyan is in a “good mood” despite the decision of the Yerevan Court of Appeals to uphold his arrest, one of his lawyers, Aram Vardevanyan, said on Facebook.
Charchyan, who ran for the parliament on the opposition Armenia bloc’s list, was arrested on 23 June after being charged with electoral offence. His lawyers appealed the arrest ruling to the higher court. Judge Lusine Abgaryan of the Court of Appeals upheld that ruling, denying the defense motion on Thursday.
Vardevanyan again denounced the proceedings against the doctor as “political persecution”.
"We are not surprised by political persecutions and shameful illegalities, as well as the “shaky” voices of judges and evasion of justice. We have clearly witnessed it for three years, we have fought and still have to fight. Professor Charchyan is in a good mood and determined despite this disgusting permissiveness of law,” the lawyer wrote.
“Rest assured that justice will prevail. The professor will be set free,” he added.
