Electricity generation at Armenia's TPPs drops in five months, statistics show
Armenia saw a growth in electricity generation in the first five months of this year, according to the latest official statistics.
The country produced a total of 3,310 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-May 2021, up by 2% from the same period of 2020, the Statistical Committee reported.
In the meantime, the electricity generation at thermal power plants (TPPs) dropped by 0.7% to stand at 1,064 million kilowatt-hours.
Some 1,064 thousand gigajoules of thermal energy were produced in the country in the five months of this year, a decrease of 38.6% from 2020.
The electricity production volumes at hydropower plants increased by 14.8% in the reporting period, amounting to 976 million kilowatt-hours.
The electricity generation at solar power plants stood at 30.8 million kilowatt-hours in January-May, securing an increase of 4.5 times compared to last year.
In this period, Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) generated 1 billion 237.6 million kWh of electricity, down by 5.9% against the 2020 production.
