Armenian community head sustained shrapnel wound in Azerbaijani shooting
The head of Armenia’s Yeraskh community, Radik Oghikyan, sustained a shrapnel wound in a shootout with Azerbaijani forces in the Yeraskh section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border late on Monday.
The community leader was injured at a military post in the border area at around 11:30pm.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Investigative Committee of Armenia said a criminal case has been launched into an attempted murder on the grounds of national, racial or religious hatred under Article 34-104 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
A preliminary probe is underway.
The Azerbaijani military opened intense fire at the Armenian positions stationed in the Yeraskh section on Monday evening. The shootings continued until 2am Tuesday, the Armenian Defense Ministry said.
