Expert: Armenia, Artsakh will face stronger regional and geopolitical confrontation in near future
Armenian security expert Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of the analytical center Henaket, reacted to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s statement on the West.
"Now our Western colleagues are trying to expand their presence, including the military one, along the perimeter of our borders, including Central Asia and Transcaucasia," Lavrov said.
“The fact that Russia clearly understands the key objective of Turkey taking a more active role in our region and its consequences is not even a subject of debate,” Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Friday.
“Moreover, the Russian foreign minister considers the developments in and around Armenia as a threat stemming from the expansion of the influence of the West, including the military.
“Open and hidden messages of the Armenian authorities addressed to the West with a certain periodicity are added to all this, and the picture becomes more complete.
“It is difficult to say how Russia will react to different scenarios of the development of the situation, but it is obvious that Armenia and Artsakh will face stronger confrontation between various regional and geopolitical poles in the near future.
“Is the country ready to take new blows? I think it is a simple question for all sober people and its answer is simple but painful,” the expert said.
