Expert: Official statement on Pashinyan-Putin phone call makes no reference to border situation
The official statement on the telephone conversation between Armenia’s acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin makes no reference to the situation along Armenia’s state borders, security expert Tigran Abrahamyan, the head of the analytical center Henaket, said on Friday.
“In particular, there was no mention of the recent escalation of tensions in the Yeraskh border section, incidents near Gegharkunik and Syunik Provinces and, most importantly, the disappearance of two Armenian servicemen and their fate,” he wrote on Facebook.
“In the past two weeks alone, Nikol Pashinyan three times addressed the escalation of the situation and growing security threats, which should have become the key topic of the talks.
“The official statement rather suggests that Armenia continues to step away from the discussions over key issues concerning our country and the region, and has entrusted that role to the Russian Federation at its own request or due to circumstances,” Abrahamyan said.
