Artsakh villager taken captive after finding himself in Azerbaijani-held area, ombudsman says
The Office of Artsakh’s Human Rights Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan has received an alarm about the capture of a resident of Machkalashen, a community in the Martuni region of Artsakh.
"The fact-finding activities have revealed that the person is a resident of Machkalashen community, born in 1989, who was engaged in cattle breeding. While searching for his lost animals, he found himself in the area under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces,” the ombudsman wrote on Facebook on Monday.
The community authorities have informed the Russian peacekeepers about incident.
Negotiations are now underway to bring back the villager through the Russian mediation, he added.
"The Ombudsman's Office continues to study the report and will provide further information on its results,” Stepanyan said.
