Sotk mine employees evacuated amid tensions on Armenian-Azerbaijani border at night
The situation was tense on the Sotk section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border last night.
As a result of the sporadic shootings, employees of the Sotk gold mine had to cut short their activity and flee the area, according to the information obtained by Panorama.am.
Since the border passes through the territory of the mine, the employees of the mine were also targeted by Azerbaijani fire.
GeoProMining Gold Company told Panorama.am on Monday that due to the border tensions the mine operations had to be suspended.
"Yes, there were tensions. We took urgent steps to suspend the operations of the mine. The company's security officers evacuated the employees. The work has now resumed,” the company said.
No injuries are reported. Around 150 employees, who were on duty at the time, were evacuated.
The Defense Ministry has yet to comment on the incident.
