Armenian lawmakers took the oath of office at the inaugural sitting of the newly elected parliament on Monday.
“To achieve the national goals and to strengthen and develop our homeland, I swear to fulfill in good faith the obligations I have before the nation, adhere to the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Armenia, contribute to the sovereignty and protection of interests of the Republic of Armenia, do everything to maintain civil solidarity and protect the national and universal values,” MP Knyaz Hasanov said, reading out the text of the oath, which was followed by applause.
Hasanov chaired the first sitting of the National Assembly of the 8th convocation as the oldest member of parliament.
President Armen Sarkissian and Catholicos Karekin II were also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
The ruling Civil Contract Party holds 71 parliament seats, while the opposition blocs Armenia and I’m Honored have 29 and 7 seats, respectively.
