Expert: Wildfires in Turkey may also pose a threat to Armenia
The raging wildfires in Turkey may also threaten Armenia, according to turkologist Karen Hovhannisyan.
At least eight people have been killed and dozens are in hospital as a result of wildfires in southern Turkey caused by a heatwave in south-east Europe, the Guardian said. Peoples’ homes burned down and authorities evacuated resorts and villages as fires raged in 32 separate provinces.
“The wildfires in Turkey are raging on, and the panic among the population also contributes to it. In the initial period people tried to extinguish the fires approaching their settlements, but now they urgently leave them and the flames spread to the settlements almost unhindered,” the expert wrote on Facebook on Thursday.
“The level of danger for neighboring states is further increasing. It is not dangerous for us yet, but within 1-2 days the wildfires may also pose a threat to us.
“We must be prepared to prevent the spread of fires to our territory,” Hovhannisyan said.
