Deputy Chief of the General Staff: Aliyev's statements increase our vigilance
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Eduard Asryan summed up with reporters the results of the closed discussion held on Wednesday in the parliament. Major-General Asryan noted that the focus of the discussion was the situation in the border areas.
"I can ensure that in the occurred tactical situation, the Armed Forces of Armenia stand firm in their positions and counter the provocative actions of the adversary. Some assert that we suffer losses, while the adversary doesn't. That is not true. The adversary suffers losses, including human. Our borders are under control," Asryan said.
Speaking of the recent border incidents, initiated by the Azerbaijani side, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff said: "Azerbaijan attempts to exercise pressure through different means, yet it is failing." In his words, the situation in Vardenis, Shorja directions was discussed at the meeting as well as in the area of Sev Lich where the adversary had attempted to advance its positions, yet was thrown back as a result of the actions of the Armenian troops.
As to Azerbaijani's President Ilham Aliyev's territorial claims to the Republic of Armenia, Asryan said: "The Azerbaijani president can state whatever he wants, however it does not correspond to reality. His allegations are a distorted narrative which may not serve a ground for us. However, his statements makes us increase our vigilance. Despite his political statements, we stand ready in our positions to repel any organised provocative action."
