Opposition lawmaker asks Pashinyan whether his government plans to surrender new regions to prevent a war
"May our citizens living in Armenia and Artsakh presume that new regions from Armenia and Artsakh will be handed over to Azerbaijan for preventing a new war or its resumption," lawmaker from "I have Honour" faction Tigran Abrahamyan asked Nikol Pashinyan on Tuesday during the Q/A session with parliamentarians.
Abrahamyan recalled that some territories were surrendered to Azerbaijan not envisaged by the November 9 trilateral statement. In his words, territories lost as a result of the military actions had a different status which was not the case with Qarvachar (Qelbajar), Akna regions (Aghdam), Qashatagh.
"After that (ed. trilateral statement), we witnessed the surrender of other regions, in particular, Khtsaberd, Hin Tagher villages of the Artsakh Republic, some parts of Kovsakan and Sanasar. You later stated there was a threat of war and in order to prevent it you had to make concessions," said Abrahamyan.
In response, Pashinyan claimed that throughout the negotiations process the Armenian side has never questioned the inevitability of handing over the mentioned territories to Azerbaijan and in fact, that has been a topic of negotiations in the past 25 years.
"We are now criticized that we had to surrender those territories before the war and quite the opposites, the Armenian government was wrong it didn't surrender them when it took over the critical phase of the negotiations," added Pashinyan.
