Defense Minister received US Ambassador
Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan received on Monday Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Armenia Lynne Tracy, accompanied by the newly-appointed Deputy Head of Mission William Laitinen and Military Attaché of the Embassy, Colonel Gregory Pipes.
As the press service at the ministry reported, Minister Karapetyan congratulated Mr. Laitinen and Colonel Pipes for assuming their posts and wished new achievements for the benefit of developing Armenian-American cooperation.
Ambassador Tracy, in turn, congratulated Minister Karapetyan on assuming the post of the Minister of Defense, noting the appointment comes in a challenging period for Armenia.
At the request of the Ambassador, the Minister of Defense presented the situation on the borders, informing about periodic provocations by the Azerbaijani side. The minister reiterated the readiness of the Armenian side for peaceful settlement of issues, at the same time stressing decisiveness to protect the Armenian borders and their inviolability.
During the meeting, the possibilities of giving a new course to the Armenian-American cooperation in the defence field were also discussed. The sides agreed to continue the efficient discussions covering the priority interests of the sides.
