Armen Charchyan's health significantly deteriorated in prison - Aram Vardevanyan
The health condition of lawmaker from opposition "Armenia" faction Armen Charchyan has deteriorated and he has been moved to a civilian hospital, member of the faction Aram Vardevanyan told Panorama.am.
Professor Charchyan, who has been held under detention for the past week, initially complained of health problems, and the law enforcement knew well about that. However, in Vardevanyan's words, the Court of Appeals didn't consider the circumstance while ruling to rearrest him.
"It is natural that while in detention, the deterioration of a health condition becomes more possible and risky as will be proved by any specialist," Vardevanyan said. He informed that months ago Charchyan underwent a heart surgery and suffered from diabetes which is to say the deterioration of his condition was not a surprise.
"This is not news and I only regret that law enforcement bodies have decided to persecute Charchyan not only for this political positions but also damage his health," said Vardevanyan.
To note, Armen Charchyan, former Director at Izmirlyan Medical Center and lawmaker from the opposition "Armenia" bloc, was arrested by Police in June, before the snap parliamentary elections for allegedly forcing his employees to take part in the elections and vote for the "Armenia" bloc.
On July 21 the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction granted the petition filed by Professor Armen Charchyan's lawyers about the legality of detention as a preventive measure chosen against him and ruled to release him. On August 23, the Yerevan Criminal Court of Appeals upheld an earlier ruling to arrest the opposition deputy.
