Dutch ambassador to Armenia visits cave church Tsaghkevank in Ara Mountain
Ambassador of the Netherlands to Armenia Nico Schermers continues to discover Armenia and its sights. He visited Tsaghkevank monastery in a cave in Mount Ara on Sunday.
“An early visit this morning to cave church Tsaghkevank in Ara Mountain. The face King Ara is clearly visible in profile of mountain! Fruit trees along the way are ready to be picked!” he wrote on Facebook.
Nico Schermers is the first Dutch ambassador to Armenia. He arrived in the country on August 29 last year.
The ambassador also revealed that on the occasion of his one year in office, he was invited by a hike club to join them to a one-day hike to Aragats North Peak, Armenia’s highest mountain (4090 meters).
“Respectable in many ways but certainly for a Dutchman (the highest elevation in is the Vaalserberg with 322m which is still lower that Armenia’s lowest elevation in Debed gorge with 390m) used to flat land all around,” he said.
