Professor Armen Charchyan's health sharply deteriorated in prison, lawyer says
The health of famous Armenian doctor Armen Charchyan has sharply worsened in prison, his lawyer Erik Aleksanyan said on Facebook on Wednesday evening.
“Moments ago, Professor Armen Charchyan's health sharply deteriorated at the Vardashen Penitentiary, which is linked to his type 1 diabetes. He has been moved to the Kanaker-Zeytun Medical Center,” the lawyer said.
“I reiterate that the disease Armen Charchyan is diagnosed with is incompatible with detention and the professor must be released immediately,” he said.
Charchyan, an MP from the opposition Armenia alliance and the former head of the Izmirlian Medical Center, has been charged for allegedly pressuring his employees to participate in the June 20 parliamentary elections and vote for the Armenia bloc.
