Armenia’s tourist arrivals, departures fall sharply in first half of 2021
Armenia saw a sharp decline both in the numbers of tourist arrivals and departures in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, the latest official statistics show.
From January to June of this year, fewer tourists visited the country than in the same months of last year despite the strict Covid-19 restrictions. The decline in the tourist numbers amounted to 22.2%, according to statistics published by the National Statistical Committee.
At the same time, in the first six months of 2021, more people were accommodated in hotels than last year, comprising 82,392 and 70,603 respectively, with a 16.7% growth secured.
According to the statistics, this year 33.8% fewer people stayed with relatives and friends or in rented houses than last year.
Armenia recorded a sharp drop in the outbound tourist numbers in the first half of this year, when 115,546 people travelled out of the country compared to 274,435 people in the same period of last year. The decline amounted to 57.9%.
