My status would pose significant risks for the political team of the ruling force - Artur Ghazinyan
"My role as Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security would pose political risks for the ruling majority, as they would like to have a politically less active candidate for the post," opposition lawmaker Artur Ghazinyan told reporters on Monday, after the parliamentary committe ejected his candidacy for the third time.
Artur Ghazinyan stressed that the problem is personally with him, his political ambitions, principality commitment and ideology. "It seems they have perceived that and the role I was expected to take over in the Committee would pose significant and serious risks for their political team," he said, when asked to comment on the reasons the ruling majority's reluctance to confirm his candidacy for the post.
"Standing Committee on Defense and Security covers a sphere of serious and vital significance. The post of the deputy chairman is not a post but a status the activities and capacities of which contain certain risks for the authorities," said Ghazinyan.
To remind, the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the Armenian parliament on Monday refused to appoint opposition lawmaker Artur Ghazinyan as its deputy chairman for the third time.
"Mr. Ghazinyan, the Armenia bloc can nominate either your or another candidate for the post. I think they will express the political position of the Armenia alliance in a respective note," Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the committee, said after the voting at a special sitting.
