Opposition MP: Security systems on Goris-Kapan road either do not work or work with severe disruptions
The recent incidents on different sections of the Goris-Kapan interstate road go to show that the relevant security systems on that section of the border either do not work or work with severe disruptions, Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan from the opposition I’m Honored bloc said on Facebook on Monday.
Earlier the National Security Service said two Armenian citizens, who had ended up in the territory controlled by Azerbaijan while travelling along the Goris-Vorotan highway on Saturday, returned to Armenia late on Sunday.
The lawmaker says the circumstances of the incident are yet to be studied.
"However, it is a fact that there are no security mechanisms in place at this section of the border, which would prevent both possible cases of kidnapping and getting lost," Abrahamyan said.
He is convinced that restoring alternative routes alone will not solve the problem. "There are both obvious and hidden issues, towards which the current authorities either do not take serious steps or simply do not have the necessary political will to do so," the MP stressed.
